If you want a decorated cake for your Hawaii wedding,
consider natural adornments like beautiful flowers
or foliage. However, if you request specific flowers
or leaves, check with a poison control center first
to make sure you're not insisting the baker decorate
with toxic plants!
Perhaps you'd prefer to top your Hawaii
wedding cake with something unusual, like origami
butterflies made of elegant paper or shiny foil? With
the Oriental influence in Hawaii, your Hawaii
wedding can easily include such exotic touches.
Or maybe the traditional bride-and-groom statuettes
are what you're envisioning? Of course, in Hawaii,
those statuettes can wear hula skirts and aloha shirts,
so don't think only in terms of formal white-and-black!
And, in case the wind picks up during a Hawaii
beach wedding, make sure any decorations are firmly
anchored on the cake!
If you want the chef to create icing decorations,
do you want elegant simplicity in your color scheme
(white-on-white or beige/cream-on-white) or something
more colorful, perhaps even tropical? Think about
whether the colors of the icing decoration should
match wedding colors, such as the bridesmaids' dresses
or the wedding bouquet or the flower arrangements.
Or should the selected colors create a more lifelike
impression, such as using a natural red or yellow
color for the hibiscus or Bird-of-Paradise made of
frosting? Do you want just a hint of adornment (a
subdued pattern circling the bottom of each cake layer,
for instance) or do you want the entire cake covered
in curlicues and elaborate designs... or something
in between? Do you want the designs to be romantic
or modern and cutting-edge? Is there a symbol that
means something special to the bride and groom, something
that would LOOK beautiful on the cake?
If you rely on the creative skills of a chef wielding
a pastry bag, you can create almost anything the mind
can imagine. If you want to see some decorating concepts
first, most bakeries keep a photo album of cakes they
have made and/or have cakes on display. Some bakeries
will even have websites with pictures. Again, Sweet
Hawaii Wedding will be able to provide you
with ideas and information.
In the next article, we'll look at tips with Bakeries.
